About Me

Gary Glickman, PhD, LMFT

My name is Gary Glickman, and I’m a psychotherapist—a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Santa Monica, on Ocean Park Boulevard.

I’m honored to be helping other people along their healing path, and to be sharing some of the insights I’ve learned along my own path. I’m proud, too, of that long path — ‘life experience,’—that’s helped me to understand that everyone’s task is to grow their connection to their own soul; that’s how suffering  is reduced, how pain and conflict come to have value and meaning.

I grew up in a large extended family in a once-small town in New Jersey (Morristown), and studied Music and Literature at Brown University.   I earned an MFA in Writing from the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa, published a novel, taught writing, and lived many places—Boston, Provincetown, New York, East Hampton, Rome—before making my home in California, and earning my second masters degree, this time in Counseling and Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, a program grounded in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology. My PhD in Clinical Somatic Psychology is from the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and The Chicago School of Psychology. (My dissertation is a study of how somatic psychotherapists understand gender, and work with it in clinical practice.)

My path of studying Resilience Training and  Trauma healing has led me to become certified as a practitioner in Somatic Experiencing from Peter Levine’s Foundation for Human Enrichment; as a certified movement facilitator from Fred Sugerman's Medicine Dance; and, most central in my practice, certified as a facilitator and training facilitator from Michael Sieck's Threefold Way.

(Threefold way is an approach to human growth and healing based on a radical, compassionate acceptance of whatever arises in the present moment. It is a practice of deepening the awareness between how our body and our idea of our 'self' is always affected and even co-created by our relationships with others.)

I've been in private practice in Santa Monica since 2002, and teach at the Pacifica Graduate Institute.  With some wonderful collaborators, I co-facilitate Mindful Movement workshops and retreats near Lake Elsinore in the Southern California mountains, and, every August, on the Big Island of Hawaii, at the Kalani Retreat Center.

Many of my clients  are gifted, high-functioning people. All are interested in bettering their lives through bettering their behaviors and insights in relationships, and shedding life-long painful habits and constraints.
I’m proud of my path, even the most difficult parts, and I’m continually transformed and healed by the courage, resourcefulness, resiliency and insights of the people who honor me with their trust.
I'm pleased to bring all of that into my work with you, focused specifically on your own particular goals and your personality.
